Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha hi/low begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. After all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some entrants get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical concept in just about all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem complicated at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of play simply enough. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming range of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several individuals trying for the high, along with several battling for the low hand. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
