Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another round of betting ensues. After all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize exactly three cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same concept in just about all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

Although it seems complex initially, after a couple of rounds you will be able to get the base nuances of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming range of betting options and because you have many individuals trying for the high, as well as many battling for the low hand. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
